Florida Launches Groundbreaking Alert System for Truckers

Florida's state-of-the-art 'Lane Closure Notification System' will alert truckers to lane closures in real-time.

Truckers moving loads through Florida now have access to a real-time alert system for work zone lane closures along interstates and state roads. The new Lane Closure Notification System is a $200,000 project that experts say is the first of its kind in North America. The project launched August 22, and the goal is to increase worker safety while helping truckers navigate work sites safely and efficiently. More construction lane closures are expected to be identified and tracked in the coming weeks and other potential benefits are decreasing work zone crashes, fatalities and injuries. At launch, Waze is the only mobile app available receiving the alerts, but support for the following apps are on the way:

  • Google Maps

  • Apple Maps

  • In-cab truck systems, Drivewyze and PrePass

The alert system was made possible thanks to a partnership with Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Transportation Builders Association and cloud-based platform company named, One.network.
